Health Care approval is a process that assesses a Health Care’s performance against a set of standards. This process is done differently across provinces and countries.
The approval process could be more transparent and provide more information to the public about the quality of care provided by Health Care Organization .
Accreditation Canada International’s standards make it possible for health service organizations, large and small, to embed practical and effective quality improvement and patient safety initiatives into their daily operations. These comprehensive health services standards ensure a thorough assessment of all aspects of an organization’s operations, from the board room to management, services, patient care, and client satisfaction. Standards are updated annually.
HARVARD Co can evaluate and assess organizations as below and approve them based on following Standards:
1-EFFECTIVE ORGANIZATION (Code: STD-EO-2011)
The Standards for Effective Organization address the growing international demand for clarity regarding the roles and responsibilities of health care organizations and their leaders to provide the supports and infrastructure needed to drive excellence and quality improvement in health service delivery. These standards address excellence in management practice, which involves planning, organizing, leading, and controlling an organization’s resources (human, financial, and technological) in order to achieve specific goals and objectives.
2-EMERGENCY AND DISASTER PREPAREDNESS ( Code:STD-EDP-2011)
An emergency is a life-threatening event that requires immediate action, but is usually contained. A disaster is a more widespread event, overwhelming entire communities. The United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction defines a disaster as ‘a serious disruption of the functioning of a community or a society causing widespread human, material, economic or environmental losses which exceed the ability of the affected community or society to cope using its own resources.
3-MANAGING MEDICATION (Code: STD-MM-2011)
Standards for Managing Medications address the safe use and effective management of medications within an organization. These standards are to be used by organizations where administering medications is part of routine client care, whether or not they have an on-site pharmacy. The standards emphasize a collaborative approach to prevent and reduce adverse drug events by addressing all aspects of the medication use process, including selection, preparation and administration of medication, and monitoring of clients.
4-AMBULATORY CARE SERVICE (Code: STD-ACS-2011)
Ambulatory care is defined as non-emergency, condition-specific single visit or episodic care generally provided on an outpatient basis in support of primary care.
5-BIO-MEDICAL LABORATORY SERVICES
The Bio medical Laboratory Services Standards apply to all organizations with a bio medical laboratory that performs analyses and are to be used in conjunction with Accreditation Canada’s Laboratory and Blood Services Standards. These standards enable an organization to evaluate its activities related to planning, designing, providing, and evaluating human resources, space, equipment, and services provided to internal and external end users of bio medical laboratory services.
6-BLOOD BANK & TRANSFUSION SERVICES (Code: STD-BBTS-2011)
The Blood Bank and Transfusion Services Standards apply to organizations that offer blood bank and transfusion services and are to be used in conjunction with the Laboratory and Blood Services Standards. These standards enable an organization to evaluate its activities related to planning, designing, providing, and evaluating human resources, space, equipment, and services provided to internal and external end users of blood bank and transfusion services.
7-CRITICAL CARE SERVICES(Code: STD-CCS-2011)
Critical care is specialized multidisciplinary care provided to clients with life threatening or potentially life threatening conditions, typically involving one or more organ system failures. This type of care is provided on a 24-hour basis in a variety of settings including on a hospital ward, or in a post-an aesthetic recovery unit, intensive care unit, coronary care unit or other high dependency unit. Critical care also includes care provided by outreach teams, known as rapid response or medical emergency teams. These teams typically conduct interventions on the ward in an attempt to halt deterioration of the client’s condition and possibly prevent the need for admission to the intensive care unit.
